I’m no stranger to the amount of hard work it takes to maintain a home. As the oldest child of a single mom, I was unofficially the manager of the house. My mom would always have these home improvement to-do-lists that I’d help her with on her days off. These days, I’m now the one coming up with the home improvement lists for my home. Summer is right around the corner. This is the perfect time to tackle home maintenance projects due to the weather. Scroll down to learn about the summer home maintenance projects that you’ll want to get started on to prep for the winter.

Roofing Repairs

Roofing projects and repairs should be at the top of your home project list. Depending on the age of your home, you may need extensive repairs on your roof which take time. Your location and climate also may impact the number of roofing repairs you need. I remember living in a small house in Buffalo during my college days. The winter snow always took such a toll on the roof that it was necessary to keep patching it up.

Summer is the perfect time to do roofing repairs because of the nice weather and a low chance of rain. You could probably get away with working on small patches on your own without professional assistance. If you’re a clutz like me or need major work done, I’d recommend you hire a professional roofing company (like Southeastern Roofing Company). Get ahead of the curve and busy roofing season by getting started around late spring/ early summer.

Southeastern Roofing Company

If you’re in the Atlanta area, I definitely recommend you look at these Atlanta home roofers. What I love about this company is its dedication to customer service. Doing large repairs on your home can be scary and extremely pricey. Southeastern Roofing Company works with its customers every step of the way. Decks and Fences

This is the perfect opportunity to build a deck for your home. If you already have one, take this summer to restain your deck and/or fences. Weather elements like rain and snow can strip the color away from your deck and fences. Give your home a makeover by adding staining or even painting your deck and fence this summer.

Clean Out Gutters

I’m not sure if anyone actually looks forward to cleaning out their gutters. I surely wouldn’t want to get near our gutters. But, we don’t really have a choice. Cleaning out your gutters is a necessary task for your home maintenance. Leaves and debris could be clogging your gutters which can lead to water damage and pricey repairs. Prevent permanent damage to your home by giving those gutters a good clean. You’re not someone that can get it done? Don’t be afraid to outsource and get a neighbor or hire someone to get this done for you.

Powerwash Your Home Exterior

Think of power washing your home like giving it a really good bath. It removes grime, bird droppings, and those difficult stains you’ve been dying to get rid of. At the right pressure, this could remove any mold or mildew that can damage your family’s health. I’d definitely recommend that you power wash your home at least once a year. Summer is the perfect time to take care of this because of the nice weather. You’ll be able to clean the home exterior without worrying about new stains and dirt building up right away.

Landscaping

This is my favorite part of home maintenance. I’ve always been a big fan of flowers even as a kid. Recently, I got into gardening which has been super soothing and good for my anxiety. Landscaping is such a huge part of your home’s overall look because it gives your home its personality. Update your landscaping this year as a part of your summer home maintenance list. I’ve already started purchasing flowers and planting rose bushes to make my house feel more like home. Not into flowers? Some pretty trees and shrubs in a uniformed design could go a long way. Early summer is the perfect time to do planting or landscaping to give the plants time to bloom.

 “Summer Home Maintenance Projects” Recap

Have you started any of your home projects yet? Where do you think you will get started? After I complete my landscaping for the house, I’ll definitely be getting started on power washing. This is our first year in the new house and I’m looking forward to making it feel like home. Comment below with your home project progress!

  1. Great post Tatyanna! I like how you mentioned a free consultation. A lot of people will go years without checking their roofs which only leads to more damage. Most roofing companies will offer free roof inspections so it wont hurt to call a local roofing company at least once a year or after any major storm.
