It’s that time of the year again! Hearts, teddy bears, and unlimited chocolate are everywhere. Boy, am I excited?! LOL. I’ve always been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day even when I didn’t have a Valentine. What’s better than some wine, a bunch of romance movies, and some red velvet cake? I’ll wait……. NOTHING! 🙂

Our new house has inspired me to try new things with house decor. It’s a fresh slate and Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Then, the idea of a budget-friendly Valentine’s Day Wreath hit me. I had to purchase a Christmas wreath for the holidays because we had just moved. I couldn’t resist diving back in my crafts and coming up with something new for Valentine’s Day.  Keep reading to learn about my new burlap Valentine’s Day wreath!

All of the materials I used for the wreath were from the Dollar Tree. Talk about savings! Something like this would have cost about $20 or more to buy. I was able to create this baby for under $10 with extra material to spare for another wreath. I’m still contemplating if I want to do a second Valentine’s Day wreath or get ready for spring with a bright flower wreath.

To create this wreath, I followed the majority of the steps from my DIY Burlap Fall Wreath. If you’re new to the blog and want to learn how to do a burlap wreath– take a look. That Fall burlap wreath gives more descriptive steps if you’re new.

  1. Cover both sides of the wreath with burlap using my method from the DIY Burlap Fall Wreath On A Budget. If you don’t want to leave the blog post, I’ll give you the short version.
  •  Cut two strips of burlap that covers the length of the wreath. I recommend you give yourself some extra material because we’ll be shaping the burlap which requires some room.
  • Place the 1st burlap through the wreath wires (keep it in the middle and fluff it out).
  • Secure with a stem at every wreath marker until the front of the wreath is fully covered.
  • Repeat the same steps on the back.
  • Hot glue any gaps in the wreath to make sure it’s fully covered.burlap wreath, burlap crafts, burlap wreath tutorial, burlap wreath diy, burlap wreath how to make, burlap wreath valentines day, valentines day wreaths front door, wreath ideas diy, valentines day crafts for adult, mom craft ideas, dollar tree diy, dollar tree valentines day, dollar tree wreath, budget crafts ideas, budget friendly decor

Your wreath should look something like this (see above).

2. Cut the ends of the pipe cleaners to make sure it doesn’t clash with your design.

3. You need to squeeze parts of the wreath together with hot glue to create a scrunched look.  I put hot glue in different areas then squeezed opposite ends of the burlap together so that the hot glue is in the inside. BE CAREFUL! It’s super hot. You may want to use something like a buffer to prevent you from burning yourself.

4.  Cut strips of each patterned ribbon. You may want to do different lengths or cut the ends of some in a design. It’s 100% your preference.

5. Take a few of the strips and place them on top of each other in different directions. Glue each strip to one another then glue each patch of strips to the burlap. I suggest you draft out your design on the wreath with the ribbons before you hot glue them down.

6. Continue until you have full spaced out ribbon bunches throughout the wreath. I hot glued some of the ribbon bunches in between the scrunched burlap just to add a bit of contrast.burlap wreath, burlap crafts, burlap wreath tutorial, burlap wreath diy, burlap wreath how to make, burlap wreath valentines day, valentines day wreaths front door, wreath ideas diy, valentines day crafts for adult, mom craft ideas, dollar tree diy, dollar tree valentines day, dollar tree wreath, budget crafts ideas, budget friendly decor

7. Glue the ribbon ends to the burlap in the direction each strip falls. This makes sure there aren’t just a bunch of ribbons hanging all over the place.

8. Cut the sticks for the heart sticks in half.

9. Glue two sticks (of the same color) into each ribbon bunch at the top of the wreath). I chose to glue the sticks in at differing heights for each stick.

10. Create a bow for each ribbon bunch using your choice of ribbon. I found that I loved the Happy Valentine’s Day red ribbon best but I added some other of the other patterns throughout to add dimension.

DIY BOW TIP:  Cut a strip of ribbon. Glue the ends together to make a loop.  Hot glue inside the loop in the middle and squeeze together. Cut two equal strips about the size of the loop. Glue strips to the loop to form the bow with each strip facing upward in a different direction. Create a small ball or cut a really small loop to glue in the middle of your bow.

11. Center both worded signs in the middle to your preference and glue in place.

12. Now, it’s time to glue the glitter hearts. This was one of my favorite parts because it pulled the look together. Space out the hearts and alternate between size and colors to your liking.

13. And now you’re all done! Go through the wreath to check for any loose material and clean it up with either scissors or a glue gun. You know, whichever works best!

Take your wonderful creation and hang it on the front door for all your neighbors to see!

This was one of the most challenging projects I’ve made so far. Usually, I can picture exactly how I want my craft project to go. This time, I was winging it if I was being honest with you. Through most of the project, I kept thinking “ahh it’s just not right”. But, I’m so glad about how it turned out!

Until next time…
