Today’s post is completely about military wife life. Now, I had NO clue that military balls were even a thing. There is still so much for me to learn about military life.
I’ve been an army wife for a few years but this is the first time we actually are living near a military base. When we met, my husband was a recruiter. Him being a recruiter made it possible for us to live away from a base. Boy, do I miss those days!
Anywhoooooooo. ( Yeah, I get off track. You guys should be used to that by now LOL :P)
GETTING GLAM: MILITARY BALL LOOK
PIN IT FOR LATER:
This past week, I had the chance of feeling like a princess and get glammed for babe’s battalion ball. It was our first formal event together and my first ball as an adult. As I never been before. You could imagine how confused I was about what should I wear.
Do I wear a poofy ball gown?
A formal cocktail dress?
Gosh, it was so hard to figure it out.
Knowing What Look to Choose
The trick to finding the perfect gown for your military ball look is a combination of your style and the dress code for the event.
I’m pretty young in comparison to the other wives of soldiers at my husband’s rank. I still like to dress trendy and “sexy” for my husband. But, it’s so important that I dress classy for the occasion to ensure I’m not the typical “young wife.
( Ok, this is definitely the most candid pic on the blog! Don’t judge me ya’ll)
After trying on over a dozen or so gowns, I stumbled on this beauty in red. Oh boy! It had me written all over it. It was bold, long, with a touch of sexy. I didn’t have on my girdle that day I was trying on gowns but I could imagine how I’d look the day of.
The mesh cleavage area was gorgeous to me. But, I felt the mesh midriff area was just a bit too much sexy for this ball and company we’d be around that day.
This is what I mean when I say you have to find some middle ground between your fashion style and the event dress code. I absolutely loved this dress but it wasn’t what I envisioned for a formal military ball look.
The Glam Process
It’s not often that I get to pamper myself. With an energetic toddler, house to clean, husband in the army, and a rising influencer career, it’s hard to find the time to just breathe let alone go to the nail salon. This mama decided to splurge on a mani and pedi at this cute place called NailCure in Killeen, Texas. I even got a glass of wine during this pampering. Talk about relaxing!
I discovered this new nail technique called dipping powder. I’ve always been a fan of acrylic nails. Supposedly, dipping powder is healthier for your natural nails. It takes a bit longer and costs a bit more. But girl, it’s worth it.
I chose a natural color only because I didn’t know the color of my dress at the time. We wouldn’t want my nails to clash right? haha!
My hair was actually a wig I bought from the beauty supply store. Surprising right?! I wanted to get extensions but couldn’t bring myself to trust a new stylist for such an important occasion.
You know I had to look out for you guys. I found the wig on Amazon. It’s low in stock so don’t wait too long and miss out.
For my makeup, I used my usual natural makeup routine as seen above just with white eyeliner. If you want the deets and a list of products used, check out my mommy natural makeup post from a few months back.

I purchased the necklace, earrings, and ring from Burlington coat factory.
The Military Ball Experience
I felt so fancy seeing my name on a place card. Does that tell how much this stay at home mom doesn’t get out?
The ball included a series of recognitions, awards, and customs.
All of which was a new experience for me.
The most interesting part for me was this tradition called the Grog. A number of soldiers come together and choose one specific drink to represent a concept that they each add to become a mix. I’m talking vodka, Saki, cinnamon whiskey, and sooooo much more.
It kind of reminded me of the most epic “jungle juice” I’ve ever seen. My daredevil husband couldn’t resist the opportunity to try this. I took a sip and it actually wasn’t that bad considering the conflicting ingredients.
Here’s my hubby’s uniform. I couldn’t resist taking a snap of all of his awards. I’m definitely a proud military wife.
The night turned into a party after all of the program events were completed. It felt so good to just kick back and have a good time with my husband. He’s being deployed soon. I’m taking every moment to enjoy the time we have left. We danced, goofed around, and drank like a couple finally having a parents’ night out.
Look at these adorable photos I managed to get of us. I’ll definitely be framing a few.
Now that I can say I know exactly what to expect from a military ball, I’m ready for my next one!
Until next time…..
